Commissioning comprises two main activities: bringing the building into use and preparing the hospital to treat
patients. The UME Group works with the construction company and project manager to ensure co-operation between build
and commissioning. This includes ensuring that Group 2 equipment is delivered on time, agreeing the overall handover
plan, arranging phased access to areas for temporary storage or office use, liaison with the IT supplier and participation
in the final snagging of the building and services.
The key to the successful commissioning of a hospital on time and within budget is a comprehensive and integrated project
management programme. We have developed a standardised commissioning methodology for hospitals (Clinicom®). This provides
a consistent approach and framework for detailed planning, and supports and manages the complex interrelationships that exist
in a commissioning programme.
There are many components to Clinicom®, the primary themes are:
- clinical
- estates and maintenance
- equipment
- staffing
- systems and processes.
Clinicom® was originally developed for the commissioning of the Darent Valley Hospital in the UK in 2000 and has been expanded
and used in all the UME Group's commissioning projects since then.
An important part of the commissioning of a new private healthcare facility is the development of a marketing and communications
strategy. We have successfully implemented programmes in a number of hospitals and work with specialist marketing and production
professionals to deliver services such as websites and brochure design and events planning.
